Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordfeud

Type in your letters on the rack and we will show you every playable word they can form. Have a blank tile? Drop in an asterisk to represent it and we'll treat it as a letter that completes a valid word. You can cap results by word length, if you're trying to fit your play in a tight space on the board.

Crossword

Do you already know some of the letters from the squares around your answer? Use a pattern search with question marks standing in for the letters you don't have yet, or filter by how the word starts, ends, or what it contains if you have a particular clue to count on.

Wordle

Combine a few filters at once: fix letters in the position you've confirmed, list the letters you know are in the word somewhere else, and rule out the ones you've already eliminated. Do a couple of searches to rule out every letter you've tried and struck out. Stack all three searches together and you'll usually narrow down a long list to just a handful of real options.

A Few Searches to Try

  • Type later into the letters box, you'll get back words like alert, alter, rate, tear, and earl, basically everything that can be built from those five letters.
  • A bit more targeted: Search the pattern field for ?o?se, if you're looking for five-letter words with "o" second and "s" fourth, such as horse, house, mouse and louse.
  • Narrowing further: Combine a starting with search for st with a length of 6, and get words like stable, stripe, strive. This is useful when a crossword tells you the first two letters and the box count tells you the rest.
  • Advanced: Set length to 5, fill in "c" in position one, and "a" in position three under letters by position. Exclude the letters e, i, o and u, and you'll get results like chart, charm and chard. This is perfect for an intense Wordle dilemma.
  • Very Advanced: Combine length 6, include letters like t, exclude letters s, e. Pattern should be b????g to land on words like bating. This is a customized, multi-condition search that's hard to do in your head, but takes seconds here.

What Each Filter Does

Letters: Finds words only built from the letters you supply, which is similar to a traditional anagram search and the fastest way to identify everything your rack can play.

Allow letter repetition: This lets a letter be used more than once in a result, even if you have listed it a single time in your search.

Pattern: Matches a word shape using '?' for an unknown and '*' for a number of unknown letters. This is handy for crosswords when you know a few letters and the overall word length.

Starting with/ Ending in/ Containing: Narrows results to words that begin, end or include a specific number of letters without having to know where every other letter falls.

Length: This restricts the results to a specific word length - useful on its own, or stacked with any other filter to keep the search results manageable.

Letters by position: Pins down specific letters at specific spots in a word once length is set. A classic backbone of the Wordle-style puzzles.

Include letters/ Exclude letters: Includes or forbids letters from appearing in the word. This allows you to rule in hints you've confirmed and rule out the guesses that came out wrong.

Dictionary: Switches between different word lists depending on the game or region you're playing in, since not every game accepts the same set of valid words.

Use all of these filters in whatever combinations make sense for your search as you're not locked in to using one at a time.

    • Enter the letters available to you to find words that can be made using only these letters (anagrams).
    • Use asterisks (*) for wildcards (blank tiles).
    Examples:

    • enorsw → owners, worsen, owner, senor, snore, swore, sworn, worse, eons, news

  • Allow letter repetition?

    • Allow the same letter to be used multiple times in a word, even if you only have it once.
    Examples:
    • aort → rotator, orator, tartar, tattoo, aorta, rotor, tarot, roar, taro, toot
    • elns → senseless, lenses, lessen, senses, sells, sense, eels, else, lees, lens
    • aet* → attest, settee, teepee, abate, eaten, eater, latte, matte, state, taste
    • mos* → bosoms, cosmos, booms, bosom, looms, memos, momma, moods, moons, moors

  • Pattern

    • Enter a pattern to match the entire word.
    • Use ? for any single letter and * for any sequence of zero or more letters.
    Examples:
    • de???ed → debated, decayed, decided, decoded, decreed, deduced, defaced, defamed, defiled, defined
    • re???es → reaches, recipes, recites, reduces, refuses, regimes, relates, relaxes, removes, replies

  • Starting with

    • Enter the letters or pattern that the word must begin with.
    • You can use wildcards: ? for any single letter and * for any sequence of zero or more letters.

    • ra?i? → rabid, radio, rapid, ratio, rabies, racial, racing, racism, racist, radial

  • Ending in

    • Enter the letters or pattern that the word must end in.
    • You can use wildcards: ? for any single letter and * for any sequence of zero or more letters.
    Examples:
    • ?a?er → baker, caper, carer, cater, eager, eater, faker, gamer, lager, laker
    • ?i?al → final, rival, tidal, viral, vital, bridal, primal, spinal, spiral, tribal

  • Containing

    • Enter a sequence of letters or pattern that must appear somewhere within the word.
    • You can use wildcards: ? for any single letter and * for any sequence of zero or more letters.
    Examples:
    • i?li?g → idling, billing, dialing, killing, rifling, sibling, willing, billings, chilling, fillings
    • t?nd?n → tendon, tending, tendons, standing, tendency, attendant, attending, extending, intending, attendance
    • ele*rat → celebrate, accelerate, celebrated, celebrates, electorate, accelerated, accelerates, accelerator, celebrating, celebration
    • nst*uct → instruct, construct, instructs, instructed, instructor, constructed, instructing, instruction, instructive, instructors

  • Length

    • Enter the exact number of letters that the word must have.
    • Setting a length automatically enables the "Letters by position" option, allowing you to specify known letters in specific positions.

  • Letters by position

    • Specify known letters in exact positions within the word.
    • This is useful for crossword puzzles or when you know certain letters but not others.
    • Leave positions empty for unknown letters.
    Examples:
    • s?a?e → scale, scare, shade, shake, shale, shame, shape, share, shave, skate
    • s?a?s → scams, scans, scars, seals, seams, sears, seats, slabs, slaps, slats
    • ?ake? → baker, bakes, caked, cakes, faked, faker, fakes, laker, lakes, maker
    • ?ate? → bates, cater, dated, dates, eaten, eater, fated, gated, gates, hated

  • Include letters

    • Enter individual letters that must be present somewhere in the word. The letters can appear in any position and don't need to be consecutive.
    • Useful for word games where certain letters must be used one or more times.
    • Duplicate letters mean minimum count: "aab" requires at least 2 "a" and 1 "b".
    Examples:
    • aeiou → dialogue, equation, euphoria, auctioned, authorise, authorize, autopsies, behaviour, cautioned, dialogues
    • eeenn → benzene, eminence, nineteen, sentence, tenement, deepening, dependent, inference, innkeeper, intervene
    • eeess → essence, seekers, sleeves, sneezes, defenses, deserves, escapees, excesses, expenses, needless

  • Exclude letters

    • Enter individual letters that must not appear anywhere in the word.
    • Useful for word games where certain letters are forbidden or unavailable.
    • Duplicate letters mean maximum count: "aab" allows at most 1 "a" and no "b".
    • Combined with "Include letters", this can be used to specify minimum and maximum counts for letters: include "aab" + exclude "abb" will match words with exactly 2 "a" and 1 or 2 "b".
    Examples:
    • aiou → beck, beds, beef, been, beep, bees, beet, begs, belt, bend
    • eiou → achy, acts, adds, afar, ajar, alas, alba, ally, alma, alms

  • Dictionary

    • Select which word list to search from. Different dictionaries contain different sets of valid words.
